Last week confirmed what was, for me, the final nail in the coffin for the magic and true meaning of Christmas. Black Friday finally, and inevitably came to the UK. Black Friday is an American tradition that falls on the Friday after thanksgiving (a commercially driven holiday which will no doubt also make its way over here soon) when retail outlet both online and offline across the land slash their prices in the hope of offsetting losses by massively increasing sales.
This came to Britain, albeit in part last week as Amazon had its own Black Friday sale. Certain goods were being sold at heavily discounted prices as consumers sat by their computers awaiting the best bargain. While this no doubt saved some people a lot of money on products they were already going to buy, it surely also prompted naive buyers to spending money they weren’t otherwise going to, leaving time with huge credit card bills after spending all that money, or Pénz as they say in Hungary.
Obvioulsy consumers are free to make the choice about their spending habits, but i feel that black Friday simply serves to extend the period of extortionate consumerism and emphasis on spending that orbits around Christmas day. for this reason I elected to boycott this revolting eclbration of greed and commercilaism which, when all is considered is really just a marketing tactic to bring in more bsuiness.
The Black Friday disappoints me as I felt that the hype around Christmas this year hadn’t been as sickening as early-starting as in previous years, Black friday totally undermines this however and will probably ensure that people will need to use loan calculators or Személyi kölcsön kalkulátor to work out what they owe on their credit cards.
